OUR TOPIC:
This presentation covers recommended policies and procedures for reacting to an active shooter event at a school or place of business. The material is intended to educate employees and students on the dangers of the standard “Lockdown,” with an in-depth discussion on why having options can save lives. The speaker will cover recommended options, including Run Hide Fight and ALICE.
Lunch will be included.
AT THE COMPLETION OF THIS ACTIVITY, THE LEARNER WILL BE ABLE TO:
• Determine whether or not their organization has an available and current active shooter policy
• Review the General Adaptation Syndrome (Fight/Flight) and how it affects decision-making when under stress
• List the three basic options someone in an active shooter situation can exercise (Run, Hide, Fight)
• Describe the ALICE options, specifically the need for communication
OUR PRESENTER:
Kurt Walling is the Loss Prevention Director for Shasta-Trinity Schools Insurance Group, a JPA in Northern California consisting of 37 school districts. Kurt is an OSHA-authorized outreach instructor, Pro-ACT trainer, ALICE instructor, Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI), and is Certified School Risk Manager (CSRM). He has an Associate of Risk Management for Public Entities (ARM-P), an undergraduate degree in business, a Masters of Public Policy Administration, and a Masters of Science in Education. Kurt served with the United States Army for 26 years and deployed to Iraq as an Airborne Infantryman.
